About Me

Ilse Roets

“ I believe the best way to understand what drives my work is to look at the journey behind it one rooted in decades of hands-on experience, continuous learning, and a deep belief in every student’s potential. That’s what led to the creation of Square Roets Maths. ”

My teaching journey began in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, where I completed a BSc in Mathematics and Geography, followed by a Higher Diploma in Education. Over 30 years later, I still love teaching as much as I did on day one. My path has taken me through classrooms, lecture halls, tutoring centres, publishing projects, and now, course creation each experience deepening my commitment to helping young people succeed.

In 2013, I completed a Master’s in Education and Leadership at Canterbury Christ Church University in the UK. My dissertation focused on Managing and Leading Dyslexia in the Maths Classroom—a turning point that helped me understand the link between learning differences and maths anxiety. It also gave me renewed purpose: to support underachieving students and create spaces where all learners can thrive.

I now work with students, parents, and fellow educators to reframe how we approach maths education. I believe every learner deserves to feel capable, confident, and supported. We all access content differently. With the right strategies—and a healthy dose of encouragement, students who once felt “bad at maths” can start seeing themselves in a whole new light.

As an author, I’ve channelled this passion into writing Life Skills for Young Adults, now available on Amazon in eBook, paperback, and hardcover, with an Audible version on the way. This is the first in a planned three-part series focused on building essential life and maths skills, emotional intelligence, and self-belief. At Square Roets Maths, we’re also working toward launching evergreen courses and masterclasses that will continue supporting students long after the school bell rings.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that the classroom is only one part of a student’s learning journey. What happens outside of it confidence, mindset, life skills, that’s where the real transformation begins.
