Dear Ilse

I do hope this message finds you well.

We want to share some good news in amidst the chaos showered down on us by Williamson, OfQual, Pearson et al.

As you may remember [our son] went to College to study two BTecs and an A level … well, he has achieved D*D*A … through hard work, great application and talent! And now he’s off to university. Amazing.

We also wanted to say thank you for your part in this story … the support you gave him at the start of his GCSE studies, and then the counsel you gave us when we were contemplating life after school … both played a major part in [our son] getting where he is now.

“My daughter Isabelle was struggling at school with maths due to poor maths teaching and was really lacking confidence as far as maths was concerned. Isabelle is dyslexic and Ilse, as a fellow dyslexic, really understood the areas that Isabelle would struggle with and was able to give the appropriate support. Isabelle’s online sessions with Ilse were so helpful to her and really increased her understanding and confidence. Ilse suggested doing the IGCSE maths exam by Edexcel in January before she was due to sit her GCSE exams in May/June. Isabelle got a 6 and was delighted. After being away from education for 25 years, I decided to go to University. In order to do that I had to re-take my GCSE’s, one of them being Maths. I was teaching myself at the time and needed to achieve a grade C or above, I took an exam in November which resulted in a grade E. Ilse worked with me every week from January to April and then twice a week from April till June as my sole tutor to help get my grade up to a C. Ilse was on call whenever I had a maths problem that I didn’t understand and had amazing patience with me whilst I was getting my head around equations and algebra. In that six months, Ilse was absolutely fantastic and when I re-took maths GCSE in June, I got a grade C and I would not have achieved this without her!
